Alessandro Romele finishes second on the decisive stage of the Tour of Istanbul
On the decisive third stage of the Tour of Istanbul, which ended with a third-category uphill finish, Astana Qazaqstan Development Team rider Alessandro Romele, competing for Astana Qazaqstan Team, secured second place once again. With support from Mattia Negrente, Romele launched a powerful sprint 150 meters from the finish but was ultimately overtaken by overall leader Mathieu Burgaudeau.
Heading into the final, fourth stage, Alessandro Romele holds second place in the General Classification of the Tour of Istanbul, 16 seconds behind race leader.
“Today was another hard stage that suited me perfectly. The team worked brilliantly from the very first kilometer: Simone (Zanini), Vadim (Pronskiy), Anton (Kuzmin), and Yevgeniy (Gidich) supported me throughout the stage, so I was able to save energy for the finale. Then Alexandr (Vinokurov) and finally Mattia (Negrente) positioned me perfectly for the sprint. I gave it my all, so there are no regrets. I truly did everything I could. I really wanted to win and bring this victory to Astana Qazaqstan Team, which has supported me this season and helped me reach the best form of my career, but this is cycling, and sometimes you lose even when you do everything right”, – said Alessandro Romele.
