Astana Dewi Women Team: A New Chapter in the Development of Women’s Cycling in the Asian Continent

In 2023, a significant initiative was launched for the development of women’s cycling in Asia. Within this initiative, a collaboration between the Astana Qazaqstan cycling team and Dewi Cycling, under the leadership of Mr. Raja Sapta Oktohari, gave rise to the creation of a women’s continental cycling team. Named the Astana Dewi Women’s Team, this team will serve as a catalyst for the advancement of women’s cycling on the continent.

With the rapid growth in the popularity of women’s cycling and the expansion of the race calendar for women, the decision was made to support new opportunities and focus on nurturing talented female cyclists from Kazakhstan and Indonesia in particular.

Operating under the guidance of the Astana Qazaqstan WorldTour team, the Astana Dewi Women Team has garnered readiness and support from technical sponsors such as Wilier, Limar and Biemme. This collaboration with strong brands will be a key factor in providing the team with the necessary for success on the global stage.

Vadim Kravchenko, an experienced specialist in managing women’s cycling teams, has assumed the role of Head Coach for the Astana Dewi Women’s Team. His expertise and experience will be valuable assets in the development of the team and the training of the next generation of female cyclists.

The establishment of the Astana Dewi Women Team not only underscores Astana’s commitment to the development of cycling but also sets forth an important mission — to support and nurture young talent. The team comprises eight eager athletes ready to take on challenges and represent Asia on the global stage.

A crucial element in this swift development is the support from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan. This partnership demonstrates the profound impact of sports on the tourism industry and emphasizes the government’s readiness to support cycling in its various forms.

Astana Dewi Women Team aspires to be an inspirational force for female cyclists in the region, creating incentives for other countries to develop women’s cycling. The new opportunities that will unfold for young talent are expected to have a positive impact on cycling in Asia.
