Giro della Valle d’Aosta. Ilkhan Dostiev finishes second at the final stage and is second in GC

The rider of Astana Qazaqstan Development Team Ilkhan Dostiev took second place at the final stage of the Giro della Valle d’Aosta, also finishing second in the general classification and winning the sprint classification.

Ilkhan Dostiev started the stage day race near Mont Blanc with a victory at the first stage. Due to poor health at the third stage, Ilhan lost his leadership, but in the final two stages Ilkhan managed to achieve high results and finish the race second in the overall standings.

“The stage race started well for me, with a stage win, but the third day went very badly, I made a mistake with nutrition and fell far behind losing more than five minutes. The next day I managed to partially gain back the minutes and came back in the GC standings. Today was the last stage, we had to give our absolute maximum, and Simone Zanini did a great job, he did incredibly well. The weather was cold, it was raining, from the start we managed to break away with a big group of riders and on the last mountain, I managed to win back a little more from the top-3 contenders and took second place in the overall standings, I am very grateful to the team for the work they have done,” – said Ilkhan Dostiev.
