Lev Gonov wins the Tour of Szeklerland

Lev Gonov, a trainee with Astana Qazaqstan Development Team, claimed victory in the overall classification of the Tour of Szeklerland, which concluded today in Romania. Gonov took the lead in the race after winning the prologue and managed to defend it over the following two stages.

In today’s second stage, Alessandro Romele fought for the win and ultimately finished second. Lev Gonov secured fourth place, a result sufficient to ensure his overall victory. Alessandro Romele finished 5th, and Rudolf Remkhi completed the Top-10.

“I am grateful to the team for the incredible support both today and throughout the entire race. The guys did a fantastic job, which gave me the chance to win, and I did. I am thankful to Astana Qazaqstan Development Team for this opportunity and very happy to have succeeded in my very first race with this team. Today, our goal was to bring the leader’s jersey to the finish line, and we succeeded. Additionally, I won the points classification, and we also became the best team of the race. We were able to perform at a very high level”, – said trainee Lev Gonov.

 

“We came to this race with the goal of fighting for the overall victory. We had a strong lineup, and the guys were ready. Lev Gonov, who joined us as a trainee for the first time, performed exceptionally well. We knew he had a good chance in the prologue, and we aimed to start the race as well as possible, which led to Lev’s victory. This success allowed him to fight for the leader’s jersey in the following two stages. Today, everything went as it should. We let the break to go away, we controlled our rivals, and in the final, did everything necessary for Lev to finish ahead, thereby securing his lead. It’s a pity Alessandro didn’t manage to win; he was very close to success.
