Simone Velasco clinches a podium in Portugal

Astana Qazaqstan’s Simone Velasco finished third in the one-day race in Portugal Figueira Champions Classic.

The Italian national champion Simone Velasco demonstrated good form at his debut race in the season 2024. The race of 192,4 kilometres in Figueira de Foz with strong winds and several tough climbs was a good way to test a form at the beginning of the racing season.

“I won’t say that I am happy with today’s result, however, it feels good to start a season already with a podium. Heavy winds and tough climbs which we climbed three times in today’s race were a good way to test a shape. Now we have some days before the next start, Volta ao Algarve, and I hope to achieve some good results there as well”, – said Simone Velasco after the finish.
