Le Tour de Langkawi. Gleb Syritsa takes third in Stage 1

Astana Qazaqstan Team rider Gleb Syritsa finished third in the bunch sprint on Stage 1 of the Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi, the UCI 2.Pro stage race in Malaysia.

Syritsa was the first rider to open the final sprint, but at the finish he could not keep his lead, finishing third behind Arvid De Kleijn and Sasha Weemaes.

“Well, perhaps I did a mistake in the sprint as I launched it too early. Everything went quite good in the final and my team worked pretty well, moving me into a good position for the sprint. But, after I started it early, I could not keep it to the end and two riders passed me just at the finish line. It’s a pity because I felt good all day long and our team did a phenomenal job in front of the peloton, chasing the break and helping me to save some energy. Anyway, it was just the first stage and some more opportunities will come in the next days. I will keep on fighting”, – said Gleb Syritsa.
