Tour of Turkey. Cees Bol sprints to second in Stage Two

Another day and another podium for Astana Qazaqstan Team. Today, in Stage Two of the race in Kalkan Cees Bol finished second in a powerful uphill sprint.

Bol started his sprint with 200 meters to go, opening a small gap in the uphill. He was keeping the lead all the way to the finish line, but with just 10 meters to go yesterday’s winner Jasper Philipsen overpassed him to take his second win in a row.

“I like this kind of finals and I was motivated to try to do something today. I launched my sprint a bit too early, but otherwise I would be boxed in. So, I preferred to start and to try to hold my pace to the end. It was a good move, and I was really close to a win. Well, in the last meters my legs were just empty, and my speed was coming down, so Philipsen was able to close the gap and to pass me to win the stage. Of course, I am disappointed because I was that close today. I had so many podiums this year and I am hungry for a victory. No doubt, I will keep on trying in the next stages”, – said Cees Bol, who moved up to the second place in the General Classification.
